Auto Auctions
Have you ever bought a car at an auction? What was your experience with the quality of the car?
Over the last labor day weekend I ventured out with my daughter to an auction. We went on a whim, and really had no intent on purchasing a car on this day.  There were only a hand few of people and as we watched, these vehicles were going for incredibly low prices.  Since we arrived late in the day, we had no opportunity to preview the autos, start them, or even sit in them. Without hesitation, I told my daughter to run up ahead and pick a car, we weren't going to miss out on our opportunity to get a steal.  15 minutes later after a mini bidding war, my daughter had her Saturn and was all smiles. Our mechanic groaned when he heard I had purchased from an auction and warned me that it was going to be a nightmare.  After checking it out, I was pleasantly surprised, my mechanic said that it was in tip top condition and the prior owner had taken great care of it, the maintence records he found in the glove box confirmed that all tune ups and oil changes etc. had been done. It is a great little car and gets excellent gas mileage.  I think the auto park may have been less crowded due to the 3 day holiday weekend, and we just were very lucky that the car was in such great condition.  I am now in need of a vehicle for myself, and I am not sure if I want to risk the chance of purchasing a lemon. Anyone have any good or bad experiences with cars from auctions?

I've had both good and bad experiences at Auto Auctions,
however, I've only actually purchased 3 times.
If I were to make just one suggestion
to anyone thinking about buying at an auction,
it would be... take a good mechanic with you
(because the car may look okay but you don't know if it's in good condition).
