RE - Is this too much $$ for spaying?
I have an 8 month old chihuahua and a regular spay will cost about $155., and then with extras, like optional blood test, laser, etc..it could go up to $296. My dog has been wormed twice, and to the vet twice before I owned her, she is up to date on all her shots, etc...

Just wondering what you all think....

Here, in Miami-Dade County, Florida, we have a
Mobile Pet Services unit that announces when and where it will be each week
and you can get your pet spayed or neutered for about $20.
Maybe your city or county does something like that.

my vet charges by the lb due to the cost of anesthesia, and my 80 lb german shepherd cost me $130 to spay.
might try and get a 2nd opinion on that one.

By the pound?
Sounds more like a Butcher than a Vet.

Yes
I work as a vet technician at one of the busiest practices in my area and for that size pet we charge about $90. Yes, there are additional options that you can choose from, such as pain medications, pain injections, blood, IV catheters, ect. There highly recommended but they are still an option. Spaying and neutering should be offered at a discounted price to encourage and allow owners to to be able to partake in providing this well needed care for their pets.

It is too high
I dont know if the price for spaying cats and dogs are different but when I lived in Norcal in stockton I only paid anywhere from 50 to 65 dollars to spay my cats but if they are in heat or pregnant without you knowing it can be a little higher of course this was about 4 to 3 years ago. I would check around and get many different prices just like you would for car incurance good luck

way too high
call around. make sure that you let them know that she is up to date on shots so they don't add that to the total.

yes that it VERY expensive.
I would recommend to go to a shelter. I went to the spca shelter in sacramento and they had a flyer that taked about spay day. that was february 22 of this year and it was only 15 dollars for cats and 20 bucks for dogs. i think they do it 3 times a year.
